This 3-hour workshop reconnects martial arts with their contemplative origins. While Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is often understood as a modern grappling art, its deeper lineage can be traced back to the year 527 A.D., when the Indian monk Bodhidharma (Ta Mo) journeyed to the Shaolin Monastery in China. There, he introduced breath-centered physical movements—later known as the 18 Buddhist Fists—which evolved into the Five Animal Styles of Shaolin. From this root system, nearly all martial arts traditions grew. But before strikes, throws, and submissions came the foundation: breath, awareness, and internal stillness.
This immersive session revives that foundation. You'll learn scientifically grounded practices to sharpen attention, regulate emotional responses, and deepen mind-body awareness. This is not a "woo-woo" side practice—it's the core of mastery.
Participants will explore breathwork, attentional training, interoceptive awareness, and body-based meditation techniques known to:
- Improve reaction time and sustained focus
- Lower reactivity and promote emotional resilience
- Dial down stress and upregulate recovery
- Enhance proprioception and sensory clarity
- Strengthen neural circuits responsible for executive control, memory, and mood regulation
These techniques are rooted in both contemplative traditions and cutting-edge neuroscience. Structural changes to the brain are not only possible—they're expected with practice.
